Who Are You Not To Be

Way back in 1996 I was at a “Metamorphosis” Seminar led by my friend Dan Millman.

It was held at a place that seemed very odd to a (then) young man from Texas. Westerbeke RANCH, they call it, is in the California wine country. Damn I thought – “A ranch without cows where people are doing things they call Tai Chi and drinking drinks called Chai Tea with no Jack Daniels”. Odd indeed to me at the time. There was even a guy who had a pair of iron balls he would spin around in his hands to create “chi flow”…whatever that is, I thought.!? 🙂

On the bulletin board outside a thing called “the dojo”, was a poem that was attributed to Nelson Mandela. It touched me, so I copied the poem into my journal. For some unknown reason, I decided to memorize it. Then, I decided to recite it to myself in the mirror for 90 days. Heaven only knows where I get these strategies from.!? BUT what happened over that 90 days established a foundation in my mind that miraculously supports the work I do today helping people live On Purpose.

Years later I met the author, Marianne Williamson, and found out, not only did Nelson Mandela not write it… to her knowledge he also never used it in a speech. Turns out the credit to Nelson Mandela is urban legend.

I hope you enjoy ~~

Here is the poem by Marianne Williamson … from her book “A Return to Love”:

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, “who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?”

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so others won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us, it’s in every one. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fears, our Presence automatically liberates others.

Several people I have had the honor of working with in the trenches of making the shift from fear to Purpose have also done the 90 day mirror exercise.  They too have had awakening experiences from it.

A regular review of this in a way that feels right for you is a practice I recommend…up to and including the mirror work.

At the very least, I hope just reviewing it today was uplifting for you in some way.

In The Game with You!
